Dover Kent MPO Launches Comprehensive South State Street Corridor Study to Enhance Safety and Multimodal Connectivity

The Dover Kent County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has launched Phase I of the South State Street Corridor Study, which will look at the corridor between US 13 and SR 10. This important route serves Dover, Magnolia, Little Heaven, and nearby communities, supporting commuters, businesses, farms, medical offices, and other regional destinations.

As growth continues south of Dover, South State Street is seeing more commuter, local, commercial, and agricultural traffic. The study will identify safety needs, review traffic conditions, and support future DelDOT and MPO planning for safer, better-connected travel.

Phase I will examine how people move through the corridor today and how travel needs may change in the future. Public input will help guide practical recommendations to improve safety, access, and mobility for pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and drivers.

Study Schedule & Community Engagement Phase I data collection is underway this summer, with public outreach expected to begin in fall 2026. The study team will seek input from residents, local governments, businesses, freight operators, emergency responders, agricultural stakeholders, and others who know the corridor well.
