Date Posted: Wednesday, April 11th, 2018Air Quality Awareness Week to run April 30 to May 4 Air Quality Partnership of Delaware encourages residents to practice clean commuting WILMINGTON— The Air Quality Partnership of Delaware is getting ready to recognize Air Quality Awareness Week from April 30 to May 4. During this time, the Partnership encourages everyone who lives and works in Delaware to practice clean commuting and other good air quality practices such as bicycling, walking, taking transit, carpooling, telecommuting, etc. While you’re at it, why not commemorate your good deeds by snapping a selfie or having someone take a photo of you and then post it to social media with the hash tag #TryItDayDE. That way, you can be entered into a drawing to win a $25 gift card. How easy is that? Businesses can join in the air quality action too. RideShare Delaware and the AQP will award an Air Quality Aware- ness 2018 Champion. Employers or businesses can self-nominate their work site for the opportunity to be recognized as the Air Quality Awareness 2018 Champion. All interested businesses must complete the attached AQA Criteria Checklist and submit to general@ridesharedelaware.org by April 16, 2018. Don’t forget to post your selfies to social media. Bonus points will be given to those employers whose employees log a clean commute in their RideShare Dela- ware account. To sign up for RideShare Delaware visit RideShareDelaware.org and select “Register My Commute” or download the free RideShareDE app. Join the AQP from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 20 at Rodney Square in Wilmington where the Partnership will join the City of Wilmington, The Partnership for the Delaware Estuary and others in the Wilmington Earth Day & Ar- bor Day celebration. The AQP will be on hand with an activity table for children. Tropo, the Air Quality Partnership’s loveable friend, will pay a visit to the event as well. Public comment period on draft FY 2019-2022 TIP starts March 16
Date Posted: Wednesday, March 14th, 2018Dover/Kent County MPO to open public comment period for FY 2019-2022 Transportation Improvement Program The Dover/Kent County Metropolitan Planning Organization will hold a public comment period for its draft FY 2019-2022 Transportation Improvement Program from March 16 to April 16. The MPO will seek approval from Public Advisory Committee, Technical Advisory Committee and its policy-making body, the MPO Council at an April 19 meeting. The MPO’s draft Transportation Improvement Program for FY 2019-2022 includes more than $119 million in road, bridge, and other projects in central Delaware over the next four fiscal years. Some highlights of this TIP include the continuation or completion of projects that have been in the planning and/or construction process for some time. A few highlighted projects in the draft TIP include: Improvements to Walnut Shade Road between U.S. 13 and Peachtree Run Completion of grade separated intersections at Route 1/South Frederica; Route 1/Little Heaven; and the start of construction of Route 1/Northeast Front Street in Milford Continued planning for the proposed widening of U.S. 13 Puncheon Run to Lochmeath Way, as well as between Lochmeath Way and Walnut Shade Road Continued design of Crawford Carroll Road extension, Kenton Road improvements, and the Camden Bypass Bridge rehabilitation projects Bike and pedestrian improvements (including the Senator Bikeway, West Street Trail, and Brecknock Park Trail connector) Improvements to Kenton Road and College Road in Dover Improvements around the intersection of Loockerman and Forest streets in Dover The TIP represents the first few years of the MPO’s long-range Metropolitan Transportation Plan. Projects in the TIP are ones for which the Delaware Department of Transportation wants to secure federal funding. The TIP also serves as a budgetary guide for how much money will be spent on each project. A project’s inclusion in the TIP does not guarantee construction will start within the TIP’s time span, although designers and planners could be busy behind the scenes on a project. Date Posted: Thursday, March 8th, 2018Downtown Dover Parking Study now available The Downtown Dover Parking Study is an initiative of the City of Dover and the Dover / Kent County Metropolitan Planning Organization (DKCMPO), in partnership with the Downtown Dover Partnership (DDP). These partners retained our consulting team, led by Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, Inc. (Langan) and with KSK Architects Planners and Historians, Inc. (KSK), to take a fresh look at the issue of parking downtown, and to come up with a series of recommendations that would be updated from the last time a parking study was conducted in 2004 and would reinforce attempts to redevelop and bring fresh vitality downtown.The primary study area for this new study was bound by Water Street to the south, West Street to the west, Fulton Street to the north and State Street to the east. Additionally we also studied the area around the City Hall Lot which is bound by State Street to the west, Division Street to the north, Water Street to the south and Park Drive to the east. Dover/Kent County MPO Hires New Executive Director
Date Posted: Friday, October 20th, 2017Dover/Kent County MPO has new executive director Reed Macmillan hired to take on role as agency leader CAMDEN — The Dover/Kent County Metropolitan Planning Organization has hired a new executive director. On Oct. 18, the MPO Council voted to approve the hire of Reed Macmillan. Macmillan’s first day at the MPO will be Monday, Oct. 30. “I am happy to have been selected as the next executive director for the Dover/Kent MPO and look forward working with the MPO staff and council as we continue to perform regional transportation planning services and transportation planning coordination within the region,” Macmillan said. Macmillan, of Middletown, comes to the MPO from New Castle County government where he has worked since 2002. Most recently, he worked in New Castle County’s Department of Land Use as the assistant land use general manager. There, Macmillan performed high level management duties overseeing the department’s various operations and functions. These duties included comprehensive planning, licensing and building inspections, permitting, land development plan review, zoning, transportation, historic preservation, administrative hearings and more. Prior to his employment with New Castle County, Macmillan worked for Kent County’s Department of Planning Services, and in Aberdeen, Md. for the Aberdeen Proving Ground in its environmental conservation and restoration division. He also served as an environmental specialist for the Maryland Military Department, Fifth Regiment Armory, located in Baltimore. Macmillan is a retired U.S. Army Reserve officer whose last assignment was in 2015 for the First Mobilization Support Group in Fort Totten, N.Y. During his service, Macmillan was deployed twice overseas with the military to Kuwait in 2004, and to Iraq in 2008. “As chairman of the Dover/Kent County MPO, I am pleased to welcome Mr. Macmillan on board,” Dover Mayor and MPO Council Chairman Robin R. Christiansen said. “As Kent County continues to grow, we need to not only plan for all modes of transportation today, but anticipate the needs of a growing and prosperous community in the future. Mr. Macmillan his staff will help make that vision a reality.” Macmillan has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a master’s degree in Environmental Planning, both from Towson University, and a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College. The Dover/Kent County welcomes Macmillan to the team. He will be the MPO’s third executive director in its 25-year existence. The first was Juanita Wieczoreck from 1994 to 2011, followed by Rich Vetter who served as executive director from 2011 to earlier this year.

MPO Regional Bike Plan update approved
Date Posted: Thursday, September 21st, 2017The Dover/Kent County MPO has a new Regional Bicycle Plan. On Sept. 13, the MPO Council approved an updated plan regarding bicycle amenities around central Delaware. The MPO first published its Regional Bicycle Plan in 2011. Work started last year to set new goals and objectives for bicycling in central Delaware based upon existing infrastructure and what’s been accomplished in the last few years. A copy of the revised plan is available here and under the Publications tab on this website’s home page.
